Jason Mraz!

19 April 2008 · Leave a Comment

I got to see Jason Mraz last night in concert! It was AMAZING!

Jenn and I drove down to Richmond last night, blasting his music full blast, singing out hearts out, being stupid. We got there with time to spare, so we walked around Downtown Richmond trying to find place to eat near the venue. There was …. nothing. You would think there would be restaurants near a theatre/concert hall like the National. But no. We ended up going in to the Mariot and found,  by chance, a really good restaurant there. We had fun just speaking French and being us. These two guys sat down at the table next to us, and we ended up talking to them and then hanging out with them at the concert! It was this undergrad student from GW and his older uncle. The younger guy was a huge Jason Mraz fan like me (well more so!) and we had a good time.

Inside the National was very cool. Very old school theatre. Nice vibe.  There was a host for the show- Justin Crediable (sp?) who is a magician. Then the “Make Peace Brothers” played a few songs. They had a good sound, but definitly hippies. What was cool was that Jason Mraz would slyly come out on stage WITH THE OPENING ACTS and play in the band as different characters!! Then, more magic when Jenn and the younger guy we met, Alex, got on stage for a magic trick. It was very cool. He got jenns ring into a wallet in the magician had her put “near her heart” and his car keys Alex’s pocket! (Its kind of hard to explain on a blog!) They didn’t know how he did it!  They were adorable up there.

Then this guy, bushwalla came up and sang. He sucked. He was like a 70’s hippie reject. He maybe had like one good song. Then Jason Mraz came up and he was AMAZING! He played a lot of his stuff from his upcoming album-out may 13th, like “Live High”, “I’m Yours” (which was AMAZING live!), “Make it mine”, “Only Human”, and “Butterfly”. He also sang some older stuff like “The Remedy” (so great!”, “No stoping us”, and “Geek in the Pink.” He did play a few songs from some of his live albums too.

He ended the show with “You and I” which is one of my all time favorites of his. And it was just incredible (hahahaha get it? thats the magicians name!) He really drug it out. And the last lyric is “And now I’m out of words”, which was a very poetic way to end the show. It was just amazing.

He has such a great voice on cd, but live it is so much better. Its so clear and pure and articulate! I was just blown away. I had such an amazing time with Jenn and our new found friends :-) I didn’t get home until like 2 am, and slept until noon this morning, but it was so worth it! Tonight Im heading to DC to go and dancing with my TEFL friend Kelly. Im going to be so tired tomorrow!!! lol

Kiki’s Song

5 April 2008 · Leave a Comment

I wrote a song for kiki (my mom’s dog) with Davids help. When I get bored, i come up with songs for my dogs. Bella has one. Yankee has half of one and needs a new one made up-thats still in progress.

Sung to the Irish tune of “wild rover”:

I’ve been an achilles for many a year,
I sniffed my way up from the foot to the rear.
Ive come home now to nap and to snore,
And ill be an achilles for ever more.

And its arr arr arrarr
One more biscuit please!
And ill be an Achilles as long as I please.

I came to this family on a cold winters night,
And they’ve loved me since with all of their might.
I love to chase frogs and bark at the door,
And ill be an Achilles for ever more!

(repeat chorus)

Still a work in progress. Ill update when i add more lyrics!! Enjoy!
